<![CDATA[Argentina will face Austria in a marquee 2026 FIFA World Cup showdown on June 22, 2026, at Dallas Stadium on FOX. First place in Group J is on the line, after Argentina and Austria both won their openers by multiple goals. Either nation will advance with a win on Monday, and each could win the group as well, depending on the Jordan-Algeria result. Led by Lionel Messi's first World Cup hat trick, Argentina won its opener 3-0 against Algeria. La Abiceleste is trying to be the third repeat World Cup winner and the first since Brazil in 1962. Argentina has won three straight major tournaments, sandwiching the 2022 World Cup between two Copa América titles. Meanwhile, Austria defeated Jordan 3-1 for its first World Cup win since 1990. This was the first World Cup match Austria had won by multiple goals since 1982. Since last June, Austria has only allowed six goals in 12 matches, showcasing its stout defense. Can that defense slow down Messi and Argentina in a crucial Group H match? Let’s check out the odds for the Argentina vs. Austria matchup at FanDuel Sportsbook as of June 22. <![CDATA[The U.S. men's national team became the second nation to secure a spot in the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup — and it has secured first place in Group D. Following its 2-0 victory over Australia, the USA improved to 2-0-0 in Group D play. And while it clinched a spot in the knockout round with its win, the USA was able to win Group D thanks to Paraguay's victory over Türkiye on Friday night. It marks the first time since 2010 that the USA has won its group at the World Cup. As we're in the midst of each nation's Match Day 2, here is a closer look at the World Cup bracket and scenarios. JUMP TO: Group A | Group B | Group C | Group DGroup E | Group F | Group G | Group HGroup I | Group J | Group K | Group LThird-Place Rankings (All records are win-draw-loss) Group A Mexico's win over South Korea on Friday meant it won Group A because the first tiebreaker is head-to-head results. Mexico's result in its final game against Czechia won't matter for its standing, although it will matter to the Czechs. Group B With strong goal differences and the top-eight third-place teams now qualifying, Canada and Switzerland will likely advance. The winner of Group B will be determined by the matchup between the two countries on Wednesday, June 24 (3 p.m. ET on FOX). Switzerland will have to win that game to win Group B due to Canada's superior goal difference. Group C Morocco and Brazil secured three points with wins over Scotland and Haiti, respectively. Brazil moved to the top of the group because of goal difference. After losses to Scotland and Brazil, Haiti will be heading home after the group stage. Group D The USA has won Group D, clinching first place with its 2-0 win over Australia and Paraguay's 1-0 win over Türkiye on Friday. The Americans have a match against Türkiye, who has already been eliminated, before playing in the round of 32 on July 1. Australia and Paraguay will battle for second place in the Group D finale on Thursday, with the Australians holding the edge due to goal differential. Group E Germany won the group and is through to the Round of 32 with its win over the Ivory Coast on Saturday in Toronto. Super-sub Denis Undav scored twice, including the winner in stoppage time, to seal the Germans' spot in the knockout rounds. Ivory Coast will need to get a result in its final match against Curaçao, which earned its first ever World Cup point in a scoreless draw with Ecuador thanks to Eloy Room's goalkeeping heroics. Ecuador will face Germany in its final match of group play. Group F The Netherlands and Japan, who played last week to a 2-2 draw, are the top two teams in the group. The Dutch handled Sweden 5-1 in its second group stage game, while Japan beat Tunisia 4-0. Sweden is in third place after the loss to the Netherlands, and will now take on Japan in the group stage finale. The Dutch will wrap up the group stage against Tunisia, who cannot advance following losses to Sweden and Japan. Group G It's still all up for grabs in Group G after three consecutive draws to open the tournament. Belgium and Iran currently hold two points each after holding each other scoreless ahead of New Zealand vs. Egypt. A win for either side in tonight's clash will catapult them to the top of Group G. Group H Spain made a statement on Sunday that it is still a serious contender at the World Cup. The reigning European champions sit atop the group thanks to a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia, which saw Lamine Yamal score his first-ever World Cup goal and Mikel Oyarzabal register two goals and an assist. Cape Verde punched above its weight once again as it split points in a 2-2 draw against Uruguay. Kevin Pina and Hélio Varela got on the scoresheet for Cape Verde's first two goals in World Cup history. Uruguay managed to escape with a point after goals from Maxi Araujo and Agustín Canobbio prevented an early exit. The final set of games will see Saudi Arabia take on Cape Verde, while a blockbuster match between Uruguay and Spain could decide who wins the group. Group I Advantage to France and Norway after one match day. Norway took care of business against Iraq, while France got a huge three points against Senegal in its opener. Those teams will play on the final match day. France can take a big step toward qualifying with a win over Iraq in its second match. A positive result for Senegal against Norway would also go a long way after its loss to France. Group J Argentina and Austria, the two favorites in this group, won their respective opening games. They will meet on the final match day, when both teams may already have qualified for the round of 32. Algeria and Jordan, though, have work to do. Group K Portugal sputtered against DR Congo and now has work to do in order to qualify for the round of 32. Cristiano Ronaldo & Co. will be expected to beat Uzbekistan, but a game on Saturday, June 27, to close out group play against Colombia could be important. Group L England got a huge result with its win over Croatia. The Three Lions will now be favorites to win their final two group games against Ghana and Panama. Speaking of Ghana, it has England next. Good thing it found a late winner against Panama, because those three points were hugely necessary ahead of games against England and Croatia to close its group-stage games. Third-Place Standings The eight third-place teams with the most points advance to the round of 32. Sweden (Group F) currently sits atop the standings, followed by Scotland (Group C) and Paraguay (Group D) – Scotland has a better goal differential. <![CDATA[Egypt moved to the top of the Group G table with a near-perfect second half in a 3-1 comeback win over New Zealand on Sunday night in Vancouver. At the heart of that effort were players both expected and unexpected. Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, one of the elite players of his generation and a source of national pride within Egypt, was at the heart of everything dangerous and ultimately scored the winning goal. Then there was Mostafa Ziko, who made his national team debut less than a month ago and delivered arguably a Man of the Match performance. Finally, the game was put out of reach when veteran Trezeguet scored his 24th career goal for Egypt for a 3-1 lead. Here are my thoughts on it all: 1. Salah Sparks Big Second Half Egypt’s attack is led by Salah and Omar Marmoush, who are with two of the biggest clubs of the Premier League in Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively. Salah is one of the best forwards of the last decade with 257 goals for Liverpool across all competitions. In the opening half, New Zealand was very effective in shutting down Egypt’s offense. Salah was contained and struggled to generate chances. At the halftime break, Egypt trailed 1-0 and was in a bad spot. The second half was a complete turnaround for the Pharaohs as it became one-way traffic into the New Zealand half. Salah did what great players do in big games, he raised his level of play to the point where he could not be defended. He was at the heart of nearly everything New Zealand was creating: he was dribbling past defenders, making smart passes, applying pressure, and getting into the New Zealand box for chances. Then in the 67th minute, Salah gave Egypt its deserved winner. After receiving the ball at the right corner of the box, he held the ball up under pressure and worked a combination with Mostafa Ziko before beating New Zealand goalkeeper Max Crocombe with a low shot inside the far post. 2. Ziko’s Sunning Rise Less than a month ago, Mostafa Ziko made his debut for the Egyptian national team in the run-up to the World Cup. It was a surprising decision that a 29-year-old player completely inexperienced at the international level who has spent his entire club career in Egypt would make the World Cup team. But that is what happened and Ziko has been tremendous. He made his debut with Egypt in a pre-World Cup friendly against Russia and scored the game’s only goal. Now in a game with the opportunity to move Egypt to the top of its World Cup group, Ziko was arguably the Man of the Match with a goal and an assist against New Zealand. His goal in the 59th minute was the big equalizer for Egypt that sparked the team’s complete turnaround in this game. Then in the 67th minute Ziko combined with Salah inside the New Zeland box to set up the Liverpool great’s winning strike. Salah is one of the best players of his generation and he sparked Egypt’s run in the second half, but Ziko had the goal contributions that turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. 3. Surman’s Quality Goal The second half was ugly for New Zealand as the team completely collapsed in every area of the game. But in the first 45 minutes, the All Whites played well and Finn Surman was part of that. The Portland Timbers central defender was arguably the best player in the game for the first half. At the heart of his effort was the goal. In the 15th minute, New Zealand earned a corner kick and Surman made a move into the box to get himself into an unmarked position. He then rose up high to meet a great delivery from Tim Payne and hit a thunderous header that was unsavable for Egyptian keeper Mostafa Ahmed Shobeir. For Surman, it briefly made him the unlikely star for New Zealand. He has never scored in MLS for the Portland Timbers since joining in 2024, but he now had a goal for the All Whites at the World Cup. In the second half, there was little Surman and the team’s backline could do with the midfield and forwards unable to keep positions or create scoring chances for another goal. For the last 45 minutes, New Zealand’s defense was simply overwhelmed. New Zealand is not out of this tournament. Advancing is possible but it will require a massive upset win over Belgium. Surman will need to play well for all 90 minutes to make that a possibility. 4. Looking Ahead To The Finales Egypt is now in a great position to win Group G. Heading into the final round of games, Egypt now has a two-point lead atop the table along with a two-goal edge in goal differential. Most importantly, Egypt now has a lot of momentum at its back and the team’s best player in Salah is in great form. Next up will be against an Iranian team where Egypt should be the clear favorite to win. But even a draw could be enough to win the group. Egypt has never advanced to the knockout rounds of the World Cup and, with four points from two games, it is heavily likely to do so. It would mark one of the greatest achievements in the national team’s history, and it would allow Salah the chance to add to the long list of his impressive career achievements, only this time for his national team. New Zealand has also never advanced to the knockout stages of the World Cup and now, with just one point from two games and Belgium as its final opponent, the knockouts are extremely unlikely. According to the FIFA World Rankings, the Kiwis are the lowest ranked team at this tournament. In this game, New Zealand fought as hard as it could before running out of gas in the second half. The optimistic take is that for three of the four halves the team has played at the tournament, the All Whites played well. But the second half tonight will likely be what sinks the team.]]>

<![CDATA[Naval Base Coronado (Coronado, Calif.) — An event that could set the standard for future events was won by a driver who could set the standard for future racers. NASCAR’s first-ever event on a military base was won by NASCAR Cup Series rookie-to-be Corey Heim, as he captured the win Sunday at Naval Base Coronado. With prohibitive favorite Shane van Gisbergen out early because of an accident, it opened up the possibilities for potential winners. Heim, the defending truck series champion, got by former rival Carson Hocevar and then dueled with 23XI Racing teammate Tyler Reddick on his way to the win. "It was hard to even process what just happened. ... It's just a fantastic feeling," Heim said in his post-race news conference about the moments after he won. Here are my takeaways: 1. Coming Back To Coronado? NASCAR isn’t sure that it will return to Coronado next year. But the league left the San Diego area relatively happy with the way the event unfolded on the temporary 3.4-mile course that used both streets on the base and the tarmac. Billed as a celebration to accompany the 250th birthday of both the United States and the U.S. Navy, the event attracted 50,000 fans Sunday and 125,000 during the weekend. "We said from the start this is more than a race; this is a mission," NASCAR COO Ben Kennedy said in a post-race news conference. "I think we all looked around the room today and we said, ‘Mission has been accomplished.’" 2. Driver Of The Future? Heim is a 23-year-old driver who won in just his 13th career start. He is racing part-time in both Cup and trucks this year, while also doing much of the testing for Toyota. He's also doing simulator time for 23XI Racing. He is considered one of the best prospects in recent years and showed again why, as he seemed unflappable late in the race while battling Reddick. "We had pretty equal cars," Heim said. "He made the first mistake and that was it." 3. Favorites Falter Shane van Gisbergen was the prohibitive favorite and his Trackhouse teammate Connor Zilisch is considered one of the best road-course racers on the circuit. But both of them found themselves out early after Austin Hill ricocheted into Zilisch and van Gisbergen got collected in the aftermath. None of the three drivers returned to the race. How frustrated was SVG? "I’m filthy," he said. Zilisch indicated that Hill got overzealous and Hill didn’t argue that point. "I just carried a little bit too much entry pace than what I've been doing all day, and just right when I touched him, and he got in the wall, it kind of sucked me into him," Hill told me after he exited the infield medical center, later adding, "That one’s on me." 4. First 1-2 Finish For 23XI It was the first 1-2 finish for 23XI Racing, as Bubba Wallace finished second after overcoming a two-lap penalty for a wheel coming off his car early in the race. Wallace didn’t have much for Heim, but his teammate Reddick did. Reddick actually looked like he was going to hold off Heim but Reddick hit the brakes, allowing Heim to remain the leader. Eventually, a flat tire relegated Reddick to 25th, and he saw his points lead drop to eight points over team co-owner Denny Hamlin with nine races left in the regular season. Both Wallace and Reddick were disappointed in themselves, but especially Reddick. "I certainly overdid it and ran him in the wall and initiated the contact, everything," Reddick said. "So, yeah, just not the way to race a teammate. ... We’re going down the wrong path right now and need to stop it." 4 ½. What’s Next: Sonoma NASCAR remains in California for the final road course of the season, as it heads to Northern California to Sonoma Raceway, a 1.99-mile permanent road course. It certainly will be a weekend where van Gisbergen will need to get the win, as he has dropped to 17th in the standings. He's the first driver currently outside the Chase bubble.]]>

<![CDATA[Lamine Yamal got Spain back on track during an eventful Sunday at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After Spain's blowout win, Iran earned a hard-fought point against Belgium and Cape Verde gave Uruguay a brief scare with its first-ever World Cup goal. Here is everything you might have missed on Day 11 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Spain vs. Saudi Arabia Belgium vs. Iran Uruguay vs. Cape Verde New Zealand vs. Egypt BEST OF THE DAY Save Of The Day Belgium was in control of Sunday's matchup against Iran, and the Red Devils looked like the more likely team to break through with a goal. A defining moment in the game came in the 59th minute, when Belgium star Kevin de Bruyne brilliantly controlled a lofted pass from Leandro Trossard near the touchline. He played a pass into the box, where left back Maxim De Cuyper eventually put a shot on goal that Beiranvand got a strong hand on. Seven minutes later, the game changed when Belgium center back Nathan Ngoy was sent off. Iran stayed defensively strong and got its second draw of the tournament ahead of its final game of the tournament next week against Egypt. Assist Of The Day Mikel Oyarzabal's amazing first 25 minutes finished with a tap-in finish at the back post after a great passing sequence that saw the ball not touch the ground. Right back Pedro Porro played a pass to the far post, which Marc Cucurella played toward the center of the box, where Olmo kept the ball in the air with his head. From there, it landed right at Oyarzabal's foot for an easy finish. Goal Of The Day Cape Verde's first-ever World Cup goal was scored in style. Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur committed a foul about 30 yards away from goal in the middle of the field. Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera put two players in his defensive wall, although it proved hugely ineffective. Pina stepped up and smashed a shot through the wall that moved away from Muslera and snuck inside the post. It was a great hit from the Cape Verde-born midfielder that shocked Miami Stadium. Moment Of The Day Spain's 18-year-old phenom came on for the final quarter of the team's 0-0 draw against Cape Verde to open the tournament. He looked lively but could not break through. It took him 10 minutes to get the ball into the back of the net against Saudi Arabia. Spain attacker Mikel Oyarzabal held up possession on the left wing and then played a brilliant ball into the back post, where Yamal slid in to tuck the ball home. It was a great moment for the player who we ranked as the No. 1 player at the World Cup, as well as a signal that Spain is still a serious contender.]]>

<![CDATA[Just over one week into the largest FIFA World Cup ever staged, the buzz is already spreading across North America. For the first time ever, the United States, Mexico and Canada are co-hosting the 48-team tournament, which kicked off with Mexico's 2-0 victory over South Africa. All 48 nations entered the competition with one goal in mind: lifting the iconic World Cup trophy. Here's a look at some fun fan moments, along with an overview of the most notable news surrounding the World Cup. June 21 A historic day ended with a memorable souvenir for Lamine Yamal during Spain's 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia on Sunday afternoon. He was given the match ball after the game to mark his historic first FIFA World Cup goal. It took Yamal less than 10 minutes to score Spain's first goal against Saudi Arabia and make his impact known. It goes to show just how bright of a future Yamal has in the sport, at just 18 years old. Curaçao goalkeeper Eloy Room sent away a remarkable 15 shot attempts from Ecuador in a scoreless draw on June 20 and a big-name friend of his was watching. "I couldn’t go to sleep, because my adrenaline was so up," Detroit Tigers star reliever Kenley Jansen, who's friends with Room, said about the match, per MLB.com. Curaçao is 0-1-1 in Group E, with a June 25 match against the Ivory Coast being its last in group play. Meanwhile, Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Chicago White Sox on June 20 to get the Tigers a divisional win and the four-time All-Star's 485th career save, which is third all time. June 20 Brazil's Raphinha has suffered a muscle injury in his right thigh and will miss their upcoming match with Scotland, per Fabrizio Romano. Raphinha limped off the field in the 38th minute of their matchup with Haiti, and sat out the rest of the game. Brazil also confirmed that he will undergo further medical treatment with the team's medical staff, and will return to activity as quickly as possible. Raphinha out will be a tough setback for the Seleção, but star Neymar Jr. is set to return on Wednesday and will be a key attacking player on the pitch. In 41 appearances with the Seleção, Raphinha has recorded 11 goals and eight assists. Brazil's start to the World Cup saw a 1-1 draw with Morocco and a 3-0 win over Haiti, which lifted them to first place in Group C. In order to win the group and advance to the round of 32, Brazil needs a win or a draw over Scotland on Wednesday. Canada's Ismaël Koné has reunited with the team after undergoing surgery for a lower limb fracture. Koné was carted off after Qatar's Assim Madibo forced a late challenge in the second half of their group stage game on Thursday. As Canada's Nathan Saliba subbed on for Koné, he scored after 12 minutes off a free kick and paid tribute by raising Koné's jersey in front of the crowd. Koné was discharged from the hospital on Saturday, and the squad welcomed him back outside the team hotel for an emotional reunion. Canada continues their World Cup campaign with one final group stage game on Wednesday. Les Rouges will need a win or a draw against Switzerland in order to win Group B and advance to the round of 32. Although he saw little action in Canada's World Cup victory over Qatar, there was a moment when goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was almost persuaded to get more involved in the offense. Crépeau, speaking to reporters on Friday after Canada's dominant 6-0 win the day before, addressed the final moments of the match, when he delivered the ball up the field and red-clad fans in the crowd at BC Place bellowed, "Shoot!" "I swear I had the little devil here saying do it and the little angel said just pass the ball and go back," he laughed. "I heard the crowd and I was like, 'Oh no, I'm not doing it.'" Crépeau didn't see a shot on goal from Qatar during Canada's first-ever World Cup victory. Canada all but sealed its spot in the knockout round with one final group match remaining, on Wednesday against Switzerland. "Max’s presence was really important yesterday. But let’s be honest, he hardly had anything to do," coach Jesse Marsch said. "I don’t think in World Cup history, there’s been such a dominant performance. That’s the truth. I think our team will take a lot of confidence from that, and Max will as well." June 19 Brazil will get one of its top stars back before potentially advancing to the knockout stage. Neymar will be available to play in Brazil's Group C finale against Scotland on Wednesday, manager Carlo Ancelotti said. "Neymar will train individually tomorrow, then Sunday back training with the team and then called up against Scotland," Ancelotti told reporters. Neymar injured his calf in a May match between Santos and Coritiba, forcing him to miss Brazil's first two matches in the World Cup. Brazil has secured four points through its first two matches, and sits at the top of Group C due to goal differential. Canada’s historic first World Cup victory was overshadowed by a gruesome injury to midfielder Ismael Kone. Koné injured his left leg when Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo tackled him from behind in the second half, sending the 24-year-old to the ground. Koné grimaced and players rushed to his aid, calling for help from the sidelines. Madibo was sent off for the tackle on Koné, who was protectively surrounded by his teammates while he was treated on the field before he was stretchered off. "I saw his leg. I saw that something wasn’t right," Canada captain Stephen Eustaquio said. He was among one of the first players to reach Koné. Koné was whisked to a local hospital were he was preparing for surgery while surrounded by family, Canada coach Jesse Marsch said. He said the injury happened right in front of the bench, and you could hear the "bones snap.' "Everybody was crushed when it happened, but we had to find a way to stay focused, we knew that Ismael wanted us to finish the job,' Marsch said. 'There’s a lot of thoughts that go through our heads right now, we’re all thinking about him, but we’re all very proud of what we are." Marsch added that Madibo personally apologized to Koné. June 18 Mexico is officially through to the knockout stage after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Korea on Thursday night. The decisive goal came from Luis Romo, who was in the right place at the right time to capitalize on a mishandled header by South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu. History has officially been made in Guadalajara. With a thrilling victory over South Korea, Mexico advances from group play and secures its first-ever Men's FIFA World Cup win at Guadalajara Stadium. Influencer IShowSpeed is in attendance for the high-stakes Mexico vs. South Korea group-stage match. Not one to sit quietly, he is fully embracing the electric atmosphere and rallying behind the Mexican squad. IShowSpeed was shown on the broadcast soaking in the atmosphere and celebrating with fans after Mexico scored the go-ahead goal just before the 50th minute. It's another memorable soccer moment for the influencer, who has become a familiar face at some of the sport's biggest events. Canada made its long-awaited mark on the FIFA World Cup, earning its first-ever tournament victory with a convincing 6-0 win over Qatar. Jonathan David led the charge, becoming the first Canadian to score a hat trick in World Cup history. Canada played in the 2022 World Cup but did not earn a win, and it remains one of only two times the country has qualified for the tournament, alongside 1986. The long-awaited moment sparked celebrations among fans, with supporters in Vancouver seen cheering after the match. Canada is now tied atop Group B with Switzerland, holding a three-point edge over Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina, who each have one point. The team is in a strong position to advance out of group play and continue its push in this year’s World Cup. Neymar is not quite ready to return to on-pitch action and the World Cup, as the Brazil football association says he will be out for the match against Haiti on Friday, per Reuters. In a statement to Reuters, Brazil's football association said that, "[Neymar] will remain in New Jersey to make the most of the final stage of his recovery, making use of the excellent facilities at The Ridge hotel and the Columbia Park training center," rather than travel with the rest of the team to Philadelphia Stadium. Neymar injured his calf in a May match between Santos and Coritiba, and has been working indoors with Brazil's training staff to be in a position to play in the World Cup. He only just arrived on Wednesday, however, and Friday is too soon for him to play in Brazil's second match of this World Cup. The eight teams playing World Cup matches on Thursday are taking part in an International Day for Countering Hate Speech commemoration, with a pre-match exchange of pennants denouncing such language. Captains involved in the Czechia-South Africa, Mexico-South Korea, Switzerland-Bosnia-Herzegovina and Canada-Qatar matches will have pennants reading "We Play Together. We Stand Against Hate' with the wording in English on one side and the teams' native language on the other. FIFA says it has deleted more than 30 million abusive posts and comments since its social media protection service was created before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. FIFA says it deleted nearly 400,000 negative or abusive posts in the first few days of this World Cup — more than it did in the entirety of the 2022 event. Other stadium activations involving that message are planned during Thursday's matches. After contributing a goal and an assist in his World Cup debut, Colombia's Luis Diaz walked to the sidelines to look for his father. They spotted each other, fulfilling a dream that was years in the making. "A lot of things came to me from the past," Díaz said after Colombia beat Uzbekistan 3-1 on Wednesday night. "I worked for this. I fought to be here at this moment." First, Colombia failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Then his parents were kidnapped. In late 2023, Luis Manuel "Mane" Díaz and his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, were captured by armed guerillas at the Colombia-Venezuela border. Marulanda was quickly rescued, but Mane Díaz was not. Luis Díaz, playing for Liverpool at the time, missed two games to return home to Barrancas and advocate for his father’s freedom. Upon his return to the club, he scored and revealed an undershirt with the words "Freedom for Papa" printed in Spanish. The gesture garnered international support and increased pressure on the Colombian government to act. Mane was released after being held for 12 days, and father and son had an emotional embrace when they reunited. This week, Díaz’s father posted a viral video of himself praying over his son’s jersey ahead of his first World Cup game. Díaz, who now plays for Bayern Munich, scored the go-ahead goal shortly after Uzbekistan equalized to lift Colombia to its first World Cup victory since 2018 while his father watched from the stands. "I think there was always something that kept us from being at ease," Díaz said. "I think that today, I am at my best." June 17 Canadian defender Alphonso Davies will be available for Thursday's match against Qatar, coach Jesse Marsch announced. Davies, who plays for Bayern Munich and is heavily-regarded as Canada's best player, missed its World Cup opener because of a hamstring injury. In Davies' absence, Canada played to a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's unclear if he will start on Thursday against Qatar, but this is a positive for the co-hosts. New Tunisia head coach Hervé Renard held his first practice with the squad on Tuesday, shortly after replacing Sabri Lamouchi, who was fired after the team’s 5-1 thumping to Sweden. The 57-year-old Frenchman had four days to get the team prepared for its second Group F game against Japan on Saturday. "At the moment we need to be focused on ourselves," Renard told reporters at the team’s training ground just hours after flying into Monterrey. "We still have a few days to be ready." Renard led Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Green Falcons earned a shocking 2-1 victory over favorite and eventual champion Argentina. In the 2018 tournament, his Moroccan side earned a draw against Spain but failed to reach the knockout stage. Renard said he was eager to experience the trill of the tournament again. "It’s a World Cup," he said. "I know the passion around this event. That’s what motivated me to come and it’s a challenge which isn’t easy." It’s not the first time Renard has replaced Lamouchi. The two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner succeeded his French counterpart in 2014 as head coach of Ivory Coast following its group stage exit at the World Cup. It would be a tough ask for Renard to guide Tunisia out of the group stage for the first time in seven World Cup appearances. After their loss to Sweden on Sunday, the Eagles of Carthage need results against Japan and group favorites Netherlands if they are to advance. "I’ve told them they have to keep their heads up, you’re here to represent your country," Renard said. June 16 Lionel Messi's hat trick in Argentina's win over Algeria had other stars in awe. After scoring two goals earlier on Tuesday, Norway star Erling Haaland saluted Messi in a post on Snapchat. "Messi is a madman," Haaland wrote with a crown emoji. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was in attendance for Tuesday's match, had a simple reaction to Messi's greatness in a post on X. Ex-German star Thomas Müller also saluted Messi in an Instagram story. Portugal will be without a key defensive piece as Rúben Dias will not play in its 2026 FIFA World Cup opening match against DR Congo on Wednesday, per Fabrizio Romano. Dias was active for Portugal's last friendly against Nigeria on Wednesday. Norway made its long-awaited return to the FIFA World Cup, and Erling Haaland wasted no time making an impact. The star striker scored twice in the first half, netting Norway’s first World Cup goals in nearly three decades. Haaland’s goal was Norway’s first at a World Cup since 1998, and fans back home in Oslo couldn’t contain their excitement, as shown on the broadcast. Life is a circle. In appearing on the pitch for New Zealand's June 15 draw against Iran, defender Tyler Bindon made himself and Jenny Bindon, his mom, the first mother and son to each appear in a World Cup. Jenny Bindon, who made 77 appearances in the net for New Zealand, was a goalkeeper for New Zealand's women's national soccer team in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. As for the 21-year-old Bindon, he spent last season on loan at Sheffield United in the English Championship, but he's signed to Nottingham Forest (Premier League). England full back Tino Livramento was ruled out of the World Cup on Tuesday because of a calf injury, forcing coach Thomas Tuchel into a late squad change ahead of his team's opening game against Croatia. Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah was called up as a replacement and is due to head to the England training camp in Kansas City. The English Football Association said Newcastle defender Livramento was injured during training on Sunday. "A subsequent scan and medical assessment on Monday unfortunately confirmed he could play no further part in England’s tournament," it said in a statement. Livramento was selected largely for his versatility, as he was comfortable at right back and left back. He was chiefly seen as the backup to the injury-prone Reece James at right back. Chalobah has played mostly as a center back for Chelsea in recent seasons, but has experience of being a right back, too. England is heading for Dallas for its first group game against Croatia on Wednesday. Teams can call up injury replacements up to 24 hours before the kickoff of their first game. Tunisia has fired coach Sabri Lamouchi after being thrashed 5-1 by Sweden in its first match at the World Cup and appointed French coach Hervé Renard. The 54-year-old Lamouchi had been in charge only since January. Renard's deal covers only the World Cup and a longer-term agreement will be discussed after that, the Tunisian soccer federation said on Tuesday. Renard is an experienced coach who specializes in leading national teams across Africa and the Arabic-speaking world. He's won the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia and the Ivory Coast. He coached Morocco at the 2018 World Cup and Saudi Arabia in 2022 — earning a notable upset win over eventual champion Argentina — and the French team at the following year's Women's World Cup. His most recent job was another stint with Saudi Arabia's men, which ended in April when he was replaced by Georgios Donis following two friendly losses ahead of the World Cup. It's not the first time Tunisia has made a mid-tournament coaching change at a World Cup. In 1998, Henryk Kasperczak was fired after group-stage losses to England and Colombia, which ruled the team out of contention for the knockout stage before its closing match against Romania. Spain went even earlier at the 2018 World Cup, firing Julen Lopetegui two days before its first group game — against Portugal — after he was announced as the next Real Madrid coach for the following season. Tunisia is making its seventh appearance at the World Cup and has never advanced from the group stage. Tunisia’s heavy loss on Sunday left the North African nation with a tough task to reach the last 32. The team’s remaining group games are against Japan on Saturday and the Netherlands on June 25. June 15 Brazil forward Neymar is reportedly looking at more time on the sideline, according to a report by ESPN. Despite dealing with injuries, the 34-year-old Neymar was still called up to the 26-man squad for the World Cup. He sat out Brazil's 1-1 draw against Morocco on Saturday. Neymar is the all-time men's leading scorer in Brazil's history, as well as having the mark for most appearances. Canada captain Alphonso Davies remained limited in the team's World Cup training session on Monday as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Davies warmed up with the team at Canada's training base but remained in return to play protocol ahead of the co-host's second group match on Thursday against Qatar at BC Place in Vancouver. The left back injured a hamstring last month while playing for Bayern Munich in a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain that knocked the German club out of the Champions League semifinals. Davies has not played for Canada since March 2025, when he tore an ACL in the CONCACAF Nations League finals. He has 15 goals in 58 games for Canada. Canada opened the World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday in Toronto. Late substitute Cyle Larin scored an equalizer for the Canadians in the 78th minute. Qatar pulled off an unexpected 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Saturday in Santa Clara, California. Boualem Khoukhi scored for Qatar in stoppage time for the nation's first-ever World Cup point. The results in the opening games kept Group B tight, with each team having one point heading into their second matches. "We know the group is wide open," defender Joel Waterman said after practice. "Obviously, we're looking at the standings and the top two teams make it through. We want to be one of those top two teams, right? So the group is still wide open. Every game is going to be difficult. Qatar is going to be very difficult and obviously Switzerland to finish the group out, so we're looking for two wins." Canada is training at the National Soccer Development Centre at the University of British Columbia. The facility is the training home of Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps. At the session on Monday, all players apart from Davies appeared to participate in full training. Reporting by The Associated Press. June 14 Lamine Yamal is in "ideal condition" to play in Spain's World Cup opener against Cape Verde on Monday, coach Luis de la Fuente said. Yamal is not expected to start the game in Atlanta, but has been cleared to play in his return from a hamstring injury that forced the teenaged superstar to miss the final weeks of the season for Barcelona. "We are following the indications of medical staff from Barcelona, his club, and also from the Spanish national team, with the fitness coaches. Everything says that Lamine Yamal is ready to play tomorrow," de la Fuente said at a news conference. "We don’t know how much. It is a matter of how the game is evolving, the game situation, that gives you a hint of when he might jump on the pitch, but he is in ideal condition to play tomorrow." Yamal has established himself as arguably the brightest emerging talent in Europe after helping Spain win the European Championship in 2024, despite only turning 17 on the eve of the final. Now 18, he is widely regarded as the player most likely to take over from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as soccer's biggest star. For Canada’s Alphonso Davies, the moment still feels surreal as he keeps spotting his jersey everywhere he goes. A Snapchat video showed him walking the streets and stopping to greet fans proudly wearing his jersey. Even though he was inactive in the 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina while recovering from a hamstring injury, he remains a constant presence in public. His status is still uncertain as Canada prepares to face Qatar on June 18. That will be a recurring question over the next six weeks. The answer on June 14 was outside Dallas Stadium in Dallas, Texas, where the New York Giants quarterback, who's serving as a FOX Sports Correspondent for the World Cup, was reporting on the ground ahead of the Netherlands-Japan matchup (4 p.m. ET on FOX/FOX One). In doing a TV spot, Winston revealed he rode the "Orange Army Bus" and that "there's nothing bigger than the Dutch Army." June 13: Tyler Adams has had quite the past 24-hours, as he started and played all 90 minutes during USA's 4-1 win over Paraguay. The very next day, he was celebrating another 4-1 victory, but this time it was the New York Knicks' 4-1 series victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has fully recovered from a calf injury he sustained last month and is ready to go for Germany’s World Cup opener against Curaçao on Sunday. The 40-year-old enters the World Cup having not played for Germany in almost two years after coach Julian Nagelsmann lured him out of international retirement. "(He’s) definitely fit enough to start the game and he got better and better," Nagelsmann said Saturday night. "He didn’t really have the rhythm, but now he found the rhythm. He played a lot, we trust him a lot and I think … in order to have a good World Cup, we need Manuel in top performance and I think he can bring that." There were questions about his health after he injured his left calf during Bayern’s last Bundesliga game of the season in late May and missed the German Cup final against Stuttgart for what was called "muscular problems in his left calf." The Bayern Munich captain is the only remaining member of the World Cup-winning team from 2014 on the Germany squad. This will be his fifth World Cup, which will tie the German record held by Lothar Matthäus. Reporting by The Associated Press. France center back William Saliba returned to full group training on Saturday at the team’s World Cup base in Boston, easing fears over an ongoing back injury ahead of their tournament opener. The 25-year-old Arsenal defender had missed Thursday and Friday's sessions to follow an individual recovery program. The persistent back issue, which he suffered while playing in the UEFA Champions League final, was feared to keep him out of the World Cup, but France manager Didier Deschamps has downplayed the severity of the issue. It's the city that never sleeps, and it's the fan base that is always partying. Ahead of Brazil's opening World Cup group-stage match against Morocco, fans of the five-time champions took over Times Square in New York City. The last time Brazil played at a World Cup tournament in the U.S. was in 1994, when the team ended up winning it all. So these fans are expecting another stateside trophy. And with Brazil's last win coming in 2002, there are high hopes that the streak can be snapped this summer. But don't count out Morocco, which will be aiming for another semifinal run after 2022. Even rapper French Montana joined the party in Times Square to hype up the fans of the Atlas Lions. Scotland and its mighty Tartan Army (as its traveling fan base is known) is making themselves right at home in Boston ahead of its World Cup opening game vs. Haiti in Boston. The fans are already in full voice as they have taken over Boston Harbor, complete with a party barge. The fans even had one of Boston's finest doing some keepie-uppies – pretty impressive skills there by that police officer! Earlier this week, one Scotland fan also shared his experience discovering Buc-ee's for the first time. Seems like it went over pretty well. June 12: Türkiye is back in the World Cup for the first time since 2002 and, despite the long absence, captain Hakan Calhanoglu has made some bulletin-board worthy comments about his team’s first opponent. "I think we will dominate (Saturday), the game, because we have more qualities and a more talented team," Calhanoglu said Friday of Australia, Türkiye’s opponent at BC Place. "So we will see (Saturday) what happens." Türkiye has had its share of continental success throughout much of this century but did not qualify for the past five World Cups. Australia is playing in its sixth consecutive World Cup and advanced to the knockout stage in Qatar in 2022. "He’s allowed to have his own opinion," Australia midfielder Aiden O’Neill said Friday about Calhanoglu’s comments. "We’ve got quality players on our team, too, so we’re ready." Calhanoglu, a 32-year-old midfielder who won a Serie A championship this season with Inter Milan, and Turkish manager Vincenzo Montella also complimented the Socceroos. "I would like to use some of their techniques because I think they are interesting techniques," Montella said. Reporting by The Associated Press. While the United States men's national team provided the crowd of 70,492 at Los Angeles Stadium with plenty of entertainment on the field, there were tons of star power in the stands as well. FOX Sports analysts Zlatan Ibrahimović and Thierry Henry caused an absolute frenzy as fans lined up for handshakes, pictures and more of the pair. But one meet-up was particularly fun was with Speed (aka, iShowSpeed), who appeared on the dais with the Brazilian star Neymar Jr. will officially miss Brazil's opening match against Morocco on Saturday. Neymar was named to Brazil's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad despite a calf injury, and now won't be available early on. Manager Carlo Ancelotti said that "Neymar is working very hard to recover as quickly as possible. "The expectation is that he will recover and rejoin the group next week." In case fans didn't already have World Cup fever, they can open their web browser. Google is officially ready for USA's opener against Paraguay, as the home page features a custom, USA-themed Google Doodle. The Doodle features red text with a blue outline, as well as a soccer ball along with an interchanging USA crest replacing the "O's" in Google. James Corden joined Christian Pulisic and the United States men's national team for a training session ahead of their World Cup opener against Paraguay. After meeting with head coach Mauricio Pochettino and going through a film session with the players, Corden and Co. hit the pitch for practice, where he helped serve as a water boy. Corden tried to help Pulisic stretch out his legs after practice before he was stopped by a member of the coaching staff. As Corden walked off, Pulisic sprayed him with a water bottle. The DR Congo men’s national team isn’t set to play until Wednesday, June 17, against Portugal in Group K, but they’ve already made a statement upon arrival in Houston, Texas. The squad arrived in style, stepping off the plane in striking black, jaguar-inspired outfits that quickly turned heads. The bold look fits their nickname, Les Léopards, and sets the tone for their World Cup presence before they even face Portugal. DR Congo may be heavy underdogs, but they’re already winning where it counts off the pitch, taking the fashion battle before kickoff. The Canadian men's national team is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday afternoon. Ahead of the match, head coach Jesse Marsch took a subtle jab at the United States men's national team during his remarks on Thursday. "In the U.S., we had to beg players to sing the national anthem," Marsch said. The United States conducted a months-long search for a new head coach in 2023, with Marsch emerging as the frontrunner and making it clear he wanted the job. Instead, they chose to rehire Gregg Berhalter, a decision that may have left Marsch with some lingering resentment. Marsch’s subtle jab could take on added stakes if the United States and Canada meet during the FIFA World Cup. The two nations could potentially face off as early as the Round of 32 or the Round of 16. June 11: The pressure of competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is high, but that hasn't stopped players from enjoying some downtime with their teammates. Norway star Erling Haaland was spotted at the Stanley Cup Final between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes. Haaland appeared to be enjoying himself as the Hurricanes secured a Game 5 victory, taking a 3-2 series lead over the Golden Knights. The Manchester City striker drew plenty of attention from fans in attendance as he took in the action from the stands. The Norway star was seen celebrating in the stands before turning his attention back to international duty, with Norway set to face Iraq in Group 1 play on Tuesday, June 16. Australia coach Tony Popovic has signed a contract extension through early 2027 on the eve of his team's World Cup opening match against Türkiye on Saturday. Football Australia said Friday that the 52-year-old Popovic's deal now extends through the Asian Cup, which will take place in January and early February in Saudi Arabia. The former Australia international was hired in September 2024 and led the Socceroos to qualification for the 48-team tournament. "I’m proud to lead my country into a World Cup, but most importantly, I want to ensure that our team is fully prepared and focused on our group matches against Türkiye, the United States, and Paraguay," he said of Australia's opponents in Group D. Canada's captain and star defender Alphonso Davies will miss Canada's World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Davies' status has been questionable due to an ACL tear and other injuries during the club season, which limited Davies to appearing in two of Canada's last 21 games. Davies is one of the co-host's more valuable players in terms of talent and experience, including 58 appearances in nine years with the national team. However, Davies' injury does not rule him out of the entire tournament. His injury update and restraint from the opening match serves as a caution to heal his injury as the group stage unfolds. After playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS, Davies transferred to Bayern Munich, where he's played since 2019. Canada is set to play Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12, followed by Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24. Just ahead of Japan's opening match against the Netherlands on June 14, captain and midfielder Wataru Endo has withdrawn his name from Japan's World Cup squad and paired it with his national team retirement, per his statement on X. Endo has been dealing with an ongoing ankle/foot injury since February. Endo has played for the Japan national team for over a decade, where he made 73 appearances and scored four goals. As a veteran anchor in the midfield, Endo has also served as Japan's captain since their previous World Cup in 2022, where they reached the Round of 16. As for Endo's professional career, he first played for Shanon Bellmare from 2010-15, followed by the Urawa Red Diamonds from 2016-19, VfB Stuttgart from 2019-23 and has played for Liverpool FC since 2023. With Liverpool, Endo played a prominent role in the team's Carabao Cup victory in 2024. With Endo out, Japan has officially called Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Shuto Machino to join the 26-man roster. Machino is entering his second World Cup and his fifth year with the Japan national team. Following the injury of defender Leonardo Balerdi, Argentina has officially called up defender Marcos Senesi to the 26-man roster. Argentina is set to open their World Cup campaign on June 16 against Algeria. Senesi has been training prior in case of a last-minute call-up, and was named to the roster after Balerdi's muscle injury was ruled out. Senesi has played professionally since 2016, playing for clubs like San Lorenzo, Feyenoord, AFC Bournemouth and is currently with Tottenham Hotspur. Joining Senesi in the back are defenders Lisandro Martínez, Nicolás Otamendi and Cristian Romero. In what's likely to be Lionel Messi's last World Cup, Argentina will look to repeat their historic 2022 World Cup win this tournament. Tyler Adams, United States' midfielder, is a fan of the National Basketball Association's New York Knicks. The Knicks are in the NBA Finals, on the eve of the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, so members of the United States' squad gathered together to watch what turned out to be the largest NBA Finals comeback in history, with the Knicks coming out on top. When New York won, the room erupted, with Adams especially going wild. And we know this because the reaction was caught on camera in the moment. That couch is destroyed, but at least no one watching the game ended up as damaged as it did after Adams went climbing and kicking all over it! If the United States ends up having a major comeback or win in the World Cup, maybe keep the players away from any obstacles like that, though. Just to be safe. Morocco replaced two injured players in its World Cup squad ahead of an opening game against Brazil, including star winger Abde Ezzalzouli. FIFA confirmed late Wednesday that former Barcelona player Ezzalzouli and Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd were withdrawn from the Morocco squad for the tournament. Ezzalzouli helped Real Betis qualify for next season's Champions League and was a potential breakout star at the World Cup. Aguerd was a cornerstone of Morocco’s historic semifinals team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. They were replaced by Amine Sbai of French club Angers and Marwane Saadane, who plays in Saudi Arabia for Al Fateh. Morocco opens against Brazil on Saturday at MetLife Stadium near New York, then plays Scotland on June 19 near Boston and finishes Group C against Haiti on June 24 in Atlanta. Ezzalzouli injured his right knee in a warmup game against Norway last weekend, though initial tests suggested he could be retained in coach Mohamed Ouahbi's squad to play in the knockout rounds. The last time Dejan Ljubicic played for Austria was nearly three years ago. Now a teammate's injury has given him a surprise comeback at the World Cup. Austria coach Ralf Rangnick called up Ljubicic late Wednesday to replace key midfielder Christoph Baumgartner, who injured his right thigh while warming up for a pre-World Cup friendly against Tunisia last week and needed surgery. Ljubicic is set to join Austria at the team camp in Santa Barbara on Thursday, ahead of the team's first game on Tuesday against Jordan. Austria also plays Argentina and Algeria in Group J. He's more of a defensive midfield option than Baumgartner, who scored 17 goals in all competitions for Leipzig in Germany last season and has remained in camp to support the team. Ljubicic also plays in Germany on the Schalke team which secured promotion from the second division last month. Ljubicic has nine games for Austria but none at a major tournament. His last appearance was in a friendly against Moldova in September 2023, and he wasn't in the squad for any World Cup qualifiers. *** The Associated Press contributed to this report.]]>

<![CDATA[Jameis Winston traded the gridiron for the world’s game this summer, living it up with a different kind of football (and football fans) as a FOX Sports World Cup correspondent for the 2026 tournament. Winston — the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner and current quarterback for the New York Giants — will take the hype around the largest World Cup yet, as a 48-team tournament co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Here’s a look at some of the best moments from Winston’s World Cup journey: Not only is Winston making a massive impact on fans at the World Cup, but he’s also carving out a brand-new reputation. Thanks to his larger-than-life personality, he is quickly becoming the ultimate "man of the people." He’s been connecting with fans at every turn, even handing over his No. 4 United States jersey to a local fan in the crowd. "He just gifted me his jersey," one fan said. "This is unbelievable. My grandma will hate me for that. I’m speechless. This is amazing. Whoever said the U.S. can’t do soccer? Go USA. Go America." If there’s one thing Winston has accomplished throughout this World Cup, it’s proving that he truly is a man of the people. Winston's World Cup journey continues as he sets out to assemble the loudest possible "USA" chants. The momentum started earlier in the week at a Seattle Mariners game, where he successfully rallied an entire section into full-voice chants. He took that to the pre-game show, along with a countdown to the USA vs. Australia matchup. His goal was simple and that was to bring both fanbases together while highlighting what makes American and Australian soccer cultures special. "My mission today is to allow Aussies to hear the USA chants from sea to shining sea," Winston said. The United States defeated Australia 2-0 on Friday night, and Winston matched the crowd's energy throughout. As tensions rose following several hard challenges on the pitch, he kept the atmosphere lively by engaging in plenty of friendly trash talk with opposing fans. "The Australian team…they just don’t know what to do with us," Winston said. "They’re turning to violence. That’s what little cousins do when they can’t fight." Despite the result not going Australia's way, Winston embraced the opportunity to connect with the Australian fans throughout the week. While Americans have their own traditions, few experiences topped Winston's firsthand look at Australia's famous shoey celebration. Winston witnessed one of Australia's most famous traditions firsthand as fans drank beer from a shoe. "They showed us an amazing tradition in Australian culture," Winston said. "I’m talking about drinking a brew from a shoe. You gotta love traditions." Emerald City is ready! Seattle has a legit claim at being one of the most soccer-crazed cities in the country. Winston joined the American Outlaws – the official supporters' group of the U.S. teams – before Friday's huge match. Seattle is awash in red, white, and blue and this city knows how to get behind a winner, having just recently celebrated the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks. Winston has now found himself at a Seattle Mariners game, where he was honored with the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Next, he'll turn his attention to soccer as the United States men's national team prepares to face Australia at Seattle Stadium on Friday night. During his appearance at T-Mobile Park, Winston rallied the crowd into a loud chorus of "USA" chants. His mission was to create the biggest chant possible in Seattle, and by all accounts, he succeeded. As Winston's World Cup journey continues across the country, he is bringing fans together through a shared love of the game. The roaring "USA" chant at the Mariners game was another example of his ability to connect with sports fans wherever he goes. Now, it doesn't seem likely that these England supporters actually have the royal authority to knight Jameis Winston, but listen: it's the World Cup, everyone is having a good time, so, Sir Jameis Winston it is, even if just for a day. Even if being knighted is an ephemeral act, that kit is not: Winston now has himself an England jersey with his name on it. A knight's cuirass? Brigandine? Hauberk? His chain mail? Whichever it's standing in for, it's custom just for Jameis. Lionel Messi has completely taken over Argentina’s opening FIFA World Cup match against Algeria, scoring not one, not two but three goals, completing the hat trick. He would have even had a fourth if he hadn’t been ruled offside earlier in the first half. Jameis Winston had the best angle on Messi’s golazo and was seen celebrating with fans in Argentina’s section. He was also wearing a customized "Winston Argentina" jersey. Tuesday ahead of Argentina's World Cup opener against Algeria in Kansas City, Winston was getting pumped for the match. But he wasn't alone. Winston had a pal with him, a literal real-life goat named Wesley, who was perfectly dressed for the occasion in a Lionel Messi jersey. This World Cup is expected to be Messi's last, and because of that, it's worth celebrating and savoring every moment the GOAT is on the pitch. It's not often to see a goat, much less one adorned in the trademark colors of a living legend, being at the center of attention ahead of one of the most anticipated games at the tournament. But Wesley-dressed-as-Messi deserves all the love he was shown in KC. Winston continues to be a national treasure when it comes to his involvement in the World Cup this year. He was spotted helping Japanese fans clean up the stands (a tradition that was spotlighted after the team's first World Cup in 1998) following Japan's thrilling 2-2 draw with the Netherlands on Sunday afternoon. The FOX Sports broadcast team, featuring Rob Stone, couldn’t contain their excitement for Winston as the feed shifted over to him in the crowd. "Jameis Winston is working with the Japanese national team to clean up Dallas Stadium," Stone said. "He’s a man of the people. Show me a number one draft pick in NFL history who takes out his own garbage bag and cleans up inside the stadium. One of the Japanese fans later described how he was surprised to see an NFL quarterback joining the clean-up effort, but was appreciative on Winston joining the cherished tradition. Jameis got up close and personal with one of the best fan bases in the world in Dallas, where the Netherlands and the always raucous "Oranje Army" know how to make an entrance. Winston rode along with the Dutch fans in their "Oranje Army Bus" and admitted that "there's nothing bigger than the Dutch Army." USA! USA! Jameis took in the sights and sounds at Los Angeles Stadium for the United States' opening match Friday, which included meeting up with influencer IShowSpeed. Not a bad way to see one of the USA's biggest wins ever at a World Cup.]]>

<![CDATA[On Sunday in Miami, Cape Verde, one of the best stories of the tournament, drew 2-2 against Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay – and this African archipelago remains undefeated at the World Cup. It was another inspiring performance against the two-time World Cup champions (1930, 1950) and, no matter Uruguay’s current run, it was a battle-driven match by the Blue Sharks, who did not stop fighting. For Uruguay, the search for a first victory at the tournament is stil on. Here are my takeaways: 1. Cape Verde's Cinderella Story Continues This incredible Cape Verde Cinderella story can't quit. The team performed admirably last week against Spain by earning a point, and shook the World Cup once again in the 21st minute. Kevin Pina made more history for the archipelagic nation and scored their first-ever goal with a fantastic free kick. Uruguay's wall was very weak, but regardless, you have to commend Pina for the effort, especially as he met the grandiosity of the moment. What a moment for them. After the 1-0 lead, Cape Verde formed an almost impenetrable unit, drawing six players across the defensive line and protecting Vozinha with everything they had. But let's not forget about Uruguay here, which is just as defiant and, from many perspectives, is also an underdog when you consider the population of the South American nation compared to others on the continent. "Garra Charrua" was back as Maxi Araújo equalized La Celeste just before the break. Shortly after, thanks to a strong sequence, the aforementioned Cannobio made it 2-1 and again, Araújo was involved with an assist. But this African side did not quit, and after a costly defensive mistake from Uruguay, Guillermo Varela made it 2-2. Cape Verde rejoiced once again. After frantic moments that involved desperate defending, the night ended with a point apiece. But my goodness, if there is a manager who should appreciate the relentless pursuit of success no matter the cost, it is Bielsa, who should admire Bubista's Cape Verde. What a story. What a team. What a World Cup for them. Oh, and here’s one for you. Cape Verde can now say that it has never lost against a World Cup champion at the tournament. 2. Pina And Varela Goals Etched In History The midfielder scored the tournament's second direct free-kick goal (Canada's Nathan Saliba against Qatar netted the second) but per FotMob, it was also the first scored by an African nation at the World Cup since Kalu Uche's finish for Nigeria back in 2010. But records aside, this was a poetic moment for Cape Verde and, in my opinion, the best so far of the entire tournament. Pina will forever go down in Cape Verdean history and decades from now, stories of his goal will be told across the nation. Consequently, in the second half, Varela's goal was equally impactful, taking advantage of a terrible mistake from Uruguay. This is exactly why we love the World Cup. Because only in this competition, in this beautiful game of ours, can we see such a joyous occasion that is celebrated by a nation making its debut. There is nothing better than an underdog story, and right now, this Cape Verde story is inspiring us all. No matter the result, Pina and his teammates can be extremely proud of this wonderful campaign as the Blue Sharks continue to navigate these World Cup waters. 3. Maxi Araújo Remains Uruguay's Biggest Threat The left-sided star who can play anywhere on the left wing is loved by Bielsa because of explosive and determined runs that almost always end up in a chance. Tonight, he was EVERYWHERE, scoring and providing an assist and moving all over the pitch. He was unplayable. At this World Cup, with strikers struggling for goals, Araújo remains the key weapon for Uruguay, just like he was against Saudi Arabia. If Uruguay eventually succeeds at this World Cup, much of it will come thanks to the man from Montevideo who plays for Sporting. But I tell you something, with all due respect to the Portuguese side, I think he'll be moving this summer. 4. Group H Stands for Group HELLO! Here’s a fun ending to this group for MD3. If Cape Verde earns a better result against Saudi Arabia than Uruguay over Spain, then second place is theirs. If Uruguay wins over Spain and Cape Verde wins against Saudi Arabia, then we will see a totally unexpected group ending.]]>

<![CDATA[Christian Lundgaard seemed as surprised as anyone that he won Sunday at Road America. After all, he ran into the back of Scott Dixon on the opening lap. So to go from worst-to-first is not something, as he said, would have on a "bingo card" for the race on the longest circuit on the INDYCAR schedule, which meant a relatively short race when it comes to laps with just a 55-lap race on the 4.014-mile course. "I knew we were going to be fighting for a top-10 regardless, just from the pace that we had," the Arrow McLaren No. 7 driver said in the news conference after his second win of the season. "I didn't really expect it to be a win." Here are my takeaways from Road America: 1. Lundgaard Earns Big Victory Lundgaard didn’t win at all last year in his first year at Arrow McLaren, so to earn two victories in 10 races this season is a huge step, especially for a driver who still isn’t signed yet for the 2027 season. "I feel like we've done so well on the road courses this year, which we did last year," Lundgaard said. "Many of them [last year] fell short. So far this year, we've kind of just picked up the pieces and won." 2. Malukas Trying To Be Positive David Malukas earned his third runner-up finish in his last six starts, in part because he had enough pace (he started second) and part because the caution came out twice after he pitted, helping with his track position. The race featured a one-lap dash to the finish after a late caution, but Malukas had nothing for Lundgaard. "P2 champions," Malukas said in his postrace news conference in referring to his recent second-place finishes. "That's been the story of this season. "Big, big kudos to this team because that race ... was insane. I didn't even know what was going on. Next thing you know we're P2." Malukas also has another second — he’s second in the series standings, 60 points behind leader Alex Palou, who finished fifth on Sunday. 3. Power-Rahal Tangle Will Power turned Graham Rahal as Rahal tried to keep Power from passing him for third on the final lap. Race stewards ruled that there would be no penalty for avoidable contact, allowing Power to remain in third and Rahal finishing 23rd. "It was unfortunate there — I was braking and he was braking and he just jerked to the left," Power said in his postrace news conference. "I don't understand why that was. It took me by surprise, obviously, and that's what caused that. "It’s a pity. ... From my perspective, I could not do anything. I was at the capacity of braking." Power has had a rough season with five races where he has led races but had no podium finishes. Rahal indicated that it was typical Power aggression. "It was just Power being Power," Rahal said in a team news release. "I had every right to move to the right at the end of the brake zone. People can say that I came back to the left, but he ran into the back of my car — he wasn't even next to me. It’s frustrating to not be able to get the result that I felt like we deserved." 4. Armstrong Saw Win Slip Away Marcus Armstrong still seeks his first win after a race where he led 14 laps and was leading with four laps remaining when his engine blew. It was another so close, yet so far for a driver who is now 11th in the series standings. Armstrong indicated that there was no indication that there was an issue with the engine before it expired. "I’m just gutted, really," Armstrong said in a team news release. Honda engineers will take a look and see what happened. The Chevy teams continue to be plagued by engine woes because of a valve coating issue with four teams having to replace engines over the Road America weekend. 4 ½. What’s Next: Mid-Ohio The INDYCAR teams have a weekend off before a July 4 holiday weekend trip to Mid-Ohio, another one of the historic road courses on the circuit. Scott Dixon won the race last year after a late-race mistake by Alex Palou on the 2.258-mile course.]]>

<![CDATA[Cape Verde’s magical start to its first World Cup isn’t over. It might just be getting started. The tiny island nation that stunned tournament favorite Spain last week did it again against Uruguay — a two-time World Cup champion — on Sunday, coming from behind for a 2-2 draw. Kevin Pina scored on a free kick for Cape Verde’s first-ever goal in the World Cup, and Helio Varela scored the equalizer for what has become one of the most surprising teams of the expanded 48-team tournament — a club now with a legitimate chance of getting into the knockout stage. "This is something we owe to other smaller national teams," Cape Verde coach Pedro Leitão Brito said through an interpreter. "Teams that struggled to qualify for a world tournament. We’re also here to show that a country may be small, may struggle financially, but if they are resilient, if they can endure struggle, they can also stand shoulder to shoulder with other major teams and with players who are on another level." The group of islands off Africa’s West coast have about 4,000 square meters (about 2.5 miles) of landmass and approximately a half million inhabitants, making Cape Verde the third-smallest nation by population to qualify for the World Cup. Even as a large number of fans at Miami Stadium chanted for Uruguay throughout Sunday’s match, Cape Verdean players seemed undaunted. "Once you’re on the pitch, a lot of things become equal," Leitão Brito said. Cape Verdean fans who watched their squad pull off one of the stunners of the tournament last week by holding Spain to a scoreless draw continued their celebrations when Pina split Uruguay’s wall and blasted a strike past diving goalie Fernando Muslera for a 1-0 lead in the 21st. Maxi Araújo and Agustin Canobbio scored late first-half goals to put Uruguay ahead. But Varela, minutes after coming into the game in the second half, took advantage of a bad pass by Mathias Olivera and caught Muslera way off his line for a tying open-net goal and his first international score. Varela celebrated by hopping into his teammates’ arms and flexing atop their shoulders as Muslera and other Uruguay players dropped their heads in disappointment. "The result, I think, was quite deserved," coach Marcelo Bielsa said afterward through an interpreter. It was Uruguay’s second draw after a 1-1 finish against Saudi Arabia in their opener. La Celeste face Spain in their group stage finale, with an uphill climb to reach the knockout stage after failing to capitalize on several late chances to take the lead. "The organizational mistakes that were made — that a squad makes — they always fall upon the driver," Bielsa added. "What I mean by that is the head coach. ... There is no magical recipe whatsoever to fix them. It goes without saying we paid a very high cost for those mistakes." It was another special moment for Cape Verde’s Vozinha, who became one of the tournament’s breakout stars after shutting down Spain. The 40-year-old goalie had his mother in the stands for Sunday’s match; she was unable to attend Cape Verde’s opening draw against Spain because she couldn’t obtain a visa. It was also the first World Cup match with two starting goalies aged 40-plus. Muslera, who made his 18th World Cup appearance, turned 40 on June 16. Vozinha waved at the crowd after the final whistle as his teammates ran to a section of Cape Verdean fans, who cheered and danced on their way out of the stadium as if they were celebrating a victory. "You show up, you believe, and we work very hard as a team," said Cape Verde defender Stopira. "I think all the world can see we play, we play very good, and we also have quality in the team. So now it’s on to the next game, and to try to reach the next one." Reporting by the Associated Press.]]>

<![CDATA[The 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup continues on Monday as Groups I and J enter their second match day following a dramatic opening round. All four matches across these two groups ended with decisive outcomes, meaning the field enters the day cleanly split in half. Four teams enter riding high with three points, looking to secure a spot in the Round of 32, while the remaining four enter the match day with zero points, desperately fighting to keep their tournament dreams alive. Argentina and Austria open the match day in Dallas, where a battle between opening-day winners will determine who sits in the driver's seat in Group J. Attention then turns to Philadelphia as France faces Iraq, with the current betting favorites Les Bleus aiming to advance with a game to go. The third match takes us to New York New Jersey Stadium, where Norway, led by Erling Haaland, look to maintain their form against African powerhouse Senegal, who enter seeking their first three points of the tournament. Finally, the nightcap features Jordan and Algeria meeting in San Francisco Bay Area, as both sides look to rebound from opening-day losses and avoid an early exit. When: Monday, June 22, 1 p.m. ET Where: Dallas TV: FOX Stream: Watch three days free on FOX One There's a lot at stake as Argentina takes on Austria on Monday at Dallas Stadium, with both teams tied atop Group J with three points each. The winner of this game secures a clear path to advance to the Round of 32. Argentina enters this match in elite form after a dominant 3-0 drubbing of Algeria in their opener. The defending champions controlled the tempo from the first whistle, showcasing clinical control. Argentina's icon Lionel Messi was the story of the night, turning back the clock to score his first hat trick at a World Cup and instantly tying the men's all-time World Cup goals record. For Austria, confidence is sky-high after securing a commanding 3-1 victory against World Cup debutants, Jordan. Marking their highly anticipated return to the World Cup stage in 28 years, Austria hopes the form can carry over against the defending champions, but the European side will face an uphill battle. Austria enters this game as the underdogs, despite a convincing win in their opener. Both teams will be eager to dictate the rhythm, but Argentina's world-class depth and big-game pedigree give them the upper hand if they can sustain their form. Player to Watch The legendary playmaker provided a masterclass in the opening match, scoring all three goals to single-handedly engineer a flawless start for the reigning champions. Arriving in Dallas in peak tournament form, Messi’s vision, explosive spatial awareness, and lethal precision in the final third will be Argentina’s primary weapon to unlock Austria’s rigid defensive structure. When: Monday, June 22, 5 p.m. ET Where: Philadelphia TV: FOX Stream: Watch three days free on FOX One France enters this match following a convincing 3-1 victory over Senegal. The two-time world champions looked characteristically smooth and dangerous as the game progressed, as their elite attacking pedigree was on full display in the second half. France controlled the tempo and dictated play for large stretches, spearheaded by superstar Kylian Mbappé, who netted two goals. Didier Deschamps faces the enviable task of managing his deep squad rotation to provide fresh attacking options and dynamic support in the final third. Iraq enters coming off a bruising 4-1 defeat against Norway where the prominent Norwegian attack led to defensive lapses that ultimately cost them all three points. Iraq did get on the board against Norway, as Aymen Hussein's header briefly equalized, but they did not have the same attacking quality to keep pace with Norway. While Iraq’s backline will face yet another monumental challenge trying to contain a highly talented and in-form French frontline. France remains heavily favored to advance, but a failure to claim a decisive win here would make their final group match a high-pressure scenario. Player to Watch The phenomenal forward remains the explosive heartbeat of France's star-studded frontline. After a strong outing in France's opening fixture where he bagged a brace, Mbappé will look to get on the scoresheet again in Philadelphia. Mbappé finds himself in a battle for both the World Cup Golden Boot and the title of all-time World Cup goalscorer with Lionel Messi, who tied Miroslav Klose's record with 16 goals, Mbappé isn't too far behind though, with 14 World Cup goals to his name. When: Monday, June 22, 8 p.m. ET Where: New York/New Jersey TV: FOX Stream: Watch three days free on FOX One Norway looks to lock up a spot in the knockout stage on Monday when they face one of the giants of African football, Senegal, at New York New Jersey Stadium. Norway, who qualified for their first World Cup since 1998, displayed the nation's offensive depth in a 4-1 rout of Iraq. The European side was clinical in transition, unleashing world-class scoring options to pick apart Iraq's defense. Having cruised through UEFA qualifying with a perfect 8W-0D-0L record, their opening tournament statement proved that their offensive potency has translated seamlessly despite the entire squad making their World Cup debut. Norway enters this continental clash in position to seize control of Group I before a highly anticipated group finale against France. Senegal enters this match with immense pressure after suffering a defeat to two-time World Cup champion, France. Norway will enter as favorites, but Senegal will look to salvage their tournament ambitions. In order to do so, Senegal will likely need a flawless defensive display, but dealing with Norway's physical frontline for a full 90 minutes will test their squad's depth. Player to Watch Prior to the tournament, one question surrounding the 25-year-old Manchester City striker was whether his success at the club level would translate on the biggest stage. After his two-goal performance against Iraq, the world can consider that question answered. If Senegal cannot deny Haaland service, he will be in prime position to lead Norway into the Round of 32. When: Monday, June 22, 11 p.m. ET Where: San Francisco Bay Area TV: FS1 Stream: Watch three days free on FOX One After an incredibly decisive opening round of fixtures in Group J, Jordan and Algeria meet at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium for Monday’s nightcap. With both sides sitting on zero points, a winner of this matchup will resurrect their knockout stage dreams while a loser faces near-certain elimination. Jordan proved they can compete on the world stage, even briefly equalizing in the second half, in a 3-1 opening loss to Austria. Jordan's defensive lapses late in the second half ultimately were the difference as Austria's next two goals came from an own goal and a penalty. If Jordan can clean up their mistakes from the opener, they could earn the nation's first three points in tournament history. However, they also need their offense to take the next step in order to have a chance to escape the group stage. Algeria enters on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat against reigning world champions Argentina. Despite the side's best efforts, Algeria was completely dismantled by Lionel Messi’s timeless masterclass. Despite the big loss, Algeria’s experienced, European-based squad knows they must immediately flush the loss in order to give themselves a chance to advance. Algeria could present a much more physical defensive challenge for Jordan's frontline than Austria provided. With both sides' entire tournament lives hanging in the balance, expect a highly emotional and aggressive battle where a single mistake could decide who stays alive. Player to Watch The forward, who plays for Qatari club Al-Sailiya SC, etched his name forever into Jordanian sporting folklore by scoring the nation's debut World Cup goal against Austria. Olwan's off-the-ball movement, work rate, and direct running will be tested heavily against a highly motivated Algerian backline. If his midfield can provide clean service, Olwan has the form and can provide the confidence to lead Jordan to its first win in tournament history.]]>

<![CDATA[SEATTLE STADIUM — What could it possibly feel like for a Super Bowl champion to watch his son score a goal in a World Cup? "Oh, it was amazing," Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame wide receiver Antonio Freeman proudly told me by phone on Father’s Day. "I think the fact that he had a head-to-head [collision] three minutes prior and then had the audacity and the nerve to go back and hit it with his head, as a parent, I’m concerned like, ‘Didn’t he just get hit in the head?’ But I’m just jumping around in excitement, and it was amazing." "I can see those box jumps that he was doing paid off because he jumped high in the air," Antonio added, "let the ball go through, and then he had to circle around and find the ball like a punt returner would do. He found the football, he attacked it, and he hit it with his head. Man, just a phenomenal, phenomenal play." In the 43rd minute of the U.S. men’s national team’s convincing 2-0 win over Australia on Friday in Seattle, Alex Freeman found space in the box and turned a deflected shot by Sergiño Dest into the Americans' second goal. It was initially ruled offside before VAR determined that it stood. "For me, it was like, ‘Yes!’" Antonio said, reenacting how he emphatically cheered for his son in the moment. "It was everything. It was just an emotional wave for the rest of the night." The entire U.S. team burst into celebration once the goal was confirmed and chased Alex to the opposite side of the field in pure jubilation. "The VAR took a really long time, and I was anxious to see whether it was a goal or not," Alex told reporters later. "And then when it was, I looked back and saw my teammates running at me, and I was like, ‘Oh lord, I have to run.’" Antonio loved witnessing everything unfold. "Just the respect and appreciation from the older guys when he scored that goal, watching them all have a kids moment where you know your friends are gonna chase you, and you’re like, no, I’m going to run from them, but I’m not going to try to outrun them," Antonio said, his voice brimming with happiness. "It looked like they were all just running together on one accord. And I know how hard it is sometimes being the youngest guy on the team to kind of find your way and find your niche. But he’s just Alex, and he’s figured that out — and man, it was just amazing." At 21 years old, Alex is the youngest player on this World Cup roster. And his emergence has been meteoric over the last year and a half. He made his first professional start for MLS club Orlando City on March 1, 2025, and earned his senior national team debut just three months later, on June 7. He then started all six matches for the U.S. at the Gold Cup, becoming the youngest player in program history to make six consecutive starts in a single tournament. His rapid ascent continued in October when he was named MLS Young Player of the Year. A month later, he scored twice in a friendly against Uruguay. In January, he transferred to Villarreal CF in La Liga, and in May, he earned a spot on his first World Cup roster. The young defender has started both World Cup matches and his speed, versatility and composure on the ball have benefited the squad. He had an assist in the Americans’ tournament opener against Paraguay and followed it up by scoring against Australia, making that three international goals on his glowing resume. Alex said celebrating with his team "made me very emotional." "It’s hard for me to take it all in," Alex told reporters after the game. "But it’s good to go through these challenges at such a fast pace at a young age. And I feel like, for me, it’s just going to make me an even better player to be able to kind of adjust to the different atmospheres and be able to kind of adjust to the different circumstances and now that I’m here, how can I give 100% and do it for my country and how can I make everyone proud?" Antonio also scored in Seattle once upon a time. Nearly 30 years ago, on Sept. 29, 1996, he caught two touchdown passes in the Packers' 31-10 win over the Seahawks at the Kingdome. Green Bay would go onto win the Super Bowl that season. Alex wasn’t born yet. "I think that’s one-of-one," Antonio told me. "I don’t know any father-son duo that probably has that, so it’s something very special and unique. Only Packer fans were rooting for me. He really got to have his moment where everybody was rooting for Alex Freeman and the U.S. team. It didn’t matter if you were a Seahawks fan, a Packers fan, a Steelers fan. You were an Alex Freeman fan, and I think that, when you look at it, it’s far bigger." Alex had no idea his dad had found the end zone in the same city. "I think for me, that’s a full-circle family moment," Alex said, beaming. "Just shows how great the family tree is. He can be great, and I can be great in my own way as well. That just shows you how amazing it is to have a dad who’s successful and that can mentor me to be able to be ready for moments like these." Antonio appreciates the credit, but is quick to note his son was raised by a village that includes coaches, teachers, family and friends. Antonio won Super Bowl XXXI with the Packers and is a former Pro-Bowler, but always tells his son that this is his story and "I’m just here if you need me." "He’s just being modest," said Antonio, who was sitting on Alex’s couch at his home in Spain when he found out he’d made the World Cup roster. "He put the work in, he chose his path, he dedicated himself and worked when other kids were at Fourth of July parties and hanging out. He was with the trainers trying to get better." "This is his journey," Antonio continued. "I’m his fan." Alex chose soccer over football when he was little, and has always been "super competitive," Antonio said. "You could be going from the car to the front door and there’s a race that you didn't even know about and all you hear is Alex say, ‘I won! I won!’" Antonio said, laughing. "I knew whatever he would do, he’d give it 100% and be great. But to be honest, all of this happened in a year and a half. I’d be lying if I said I saw this coming all along." Alex’s teammates are effusive when they speak about him. Christian Pulisic described him as "a beast" last week. After the Australia game, Folarin Balogun called him a "humble kid, very down-to-Earth, and I think as long as he continues to develop, and he’s able to show he’s doing it on the biggest stage, I think he’s gonna have a bright future." Their manager wholeheartedly agrees, and took it a step further. "It’s difficult to explain the evolution of him," Mauricio Pochettino said with a chuckle during his press conference after Friday’s game. "He [is such a] humble guy, he has an amazing profile, he wants to learn, he always listens, he’s a player that you really enjoy being with him. Not only coaching, but just being with him. He’s a lovely guy and an amazing player. For me, he has the potential to be one of the best players in his position in the world." Comments like those make Antonio emotional. "Cried my eyes out," Antonio exclaimed. "In the world? Are you kidding me? I could have been the best receiver for Green Bay. I would never be considered one of the best in the world. I always had Jerry Rice and then came Randy Moss and a host of other guys. To come from a coach like that who is so accomplished and has seen so much soccer in his life to make such a statement, man, it just brought tears to my eyes. This kid is all in. He loves soccer, he loves his job, and man, that was just next level." Antonio paused before continuing, soaking it all in — in real time. "When you say, ‘He’s a Pro Bowler,’ OK, he’s one of the best in the NFL," Antonio said. "When you have somebody say one of the best in the world, like, we’re not even talking about the U.S., we are talking about international soccer and [Pochettino has] seen a lot of soccer. For me, it’s a huge statement." The Americans have Sunday off to take time for themselves, disconnect, and spend time with family before gearing up to face Türkiye in their final group stage match on Thursday in Los Angeles. After consecutive wins, the squad has already won Group D and clinched a spot in the round of 32 in Santa Clara on July 1 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Being that their rest day occurred on Father’s Day, Antonio said the plan was to spend time with Alex. But he also knows what it’s like to prepare for high-pressure games and doesn’t want to take up all of his son’s time. "Listen, every day is Father’s Day for me," Antonio said. "Let me get this clear: I don’t need one day. I get it every day."]]>

<![CDATA[It came down to a last-lap shootout at the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America. When the dust had settled following a hectic final lap, it was Christian Lundgaard outlasting the field to take the checkered flag following 55 laps and 223 miles of high-octane action in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The Winner Is … Christian Lundgaard, who took the lead with four laps remaining and didn't look back, despite a late caution giving the field one final shot at trying to catch up to him. Alas, Lundgaard was too strong and was in the first stop when one final caution came out to end the race. It was the No. 7 Arrow McLaren driver's second win of the season — the first time in his career he has multiple wins in the same season. How The Race Was Won Marcus Armstrong appeared to be in the driver's seat for the victory with four laps remaining. But then trouble happened. With Lundgaard trying to make up ground on the first-place driver, Armstrong suffered an engine issue, allowing Lundgaard to pass into the top spot, which he would not relinquish.
